A Salute to Indy in May is a personal reflection on my lifelong connection to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the traditions that define the Month of May in Indianapolis. Growing up and living in Indy my entire life, some of my earliest memories are of qualification days, Carb Day, practice laps and attending my first Indy 500. My passion for art began in my youth as I studied and copied drawings by family friend D.R. Schuck, a race car artist whose work hangs in the IMS Museum and the Smithsonian. With 2026 marking the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, creating a patriotic salute to Indy in May felt both natural and meaningful.
